Symposium - Chemistry and habitat

Wednesday, November 5, 2025, Maison de la Chimie, Paris -

Housing concerns us all, and is closely linked to the evolution of society and its energy, climate, economic and social problems. Chemistry has played, and continues to play, an important role in adapting to these new challenges. All sectors of the habitat are concerned: architecture, urban planning, building materials, lighting, insulation, interior decoration... Chemistry is a key element in the development of new products.
Chemistry is an important tool for innovation in all these fields, and university and industry experts will be presenting the answers to these challenges, the outlook for the future, and the role of chemists, particularly young chemists. The multi-disciplinary field of Habitat is evolving and developing.
It needs new skills, and a well-trained workforce. Our high schools and vocational training schools are the best places to choose a career in these promising sectors.
Danièle OLIVIER, Vice-President of the Fondation internationale de la Maison de la Chimie

Overlooking performance, building robustness

Guillaume Nicolas and Julien Choppin, both teachers atENSA Normandie, reveal their report entitled "Ringardiser la performance, construire la robustesse" (Making performance obsolete, building robustness) in the February/March issue of D'Architectures magazine. *

At the heart of this dossier is the book by plant biology researcher Olivier Hamant (2023): "Antidote au culte de la performance: la robustesse du vivant" (Antidote to the cult of performance: the robustness of living organisms).** Based on his observations of living organisms, he develops the idea that, in a world increasingly subject to fluctuations, notably climate change and socio-economic upheaval, it is preferable to rely on the notion of robustness rather than performance.

They propose to question the world of architecture on these two notions: Antoine Picon reflects on the evolution of technology through the ages; an essay by Ariel Genadt defends weakness and vulnerability, taking Japanese architecture as an example; Pascale Joffroy tackles the political aspect and Cyril Pressacco the material aspect, with experimental research into lime-hemp insulation. The dossier, which opened with an interview with Olivier Hamant, closes with an interview with Gilles Perraudin.

Exhibitions & Meetings - Read Print Performing Art Research

Until April 5, 2025 - At the Syndicat Potentiel Strasbourg, a place for artistic creation, encounters and experiments.

Syndicat Potentiel's activities are mainly in the cultural field, in a broad perimeter that integrates a particular attention to different cultures. These are seen as rich resources, all the more so when put into dialogue. The central aim of such a perimeter is to support and present to the public the often collaborative research and work of artists and researchers capable of shifting the boundaries of both the art world and scientific research.

With the participation of Nikolas Fouré, lecturer and researcher atENSA Normandie, as part of the exhibition "Mise en récit, en fiction, en jeu et en espace de la recherche artistique" (Narrative, fiction, play and space in artistic research), in which he looks back on his nomadic teaching practice "le milieu et ses mesures" (the environment and its measurements), carried out over a period of six years.
