Welcoming international students

On Tuesday, September 19, a welcome reception was held in honor of the international students atENSA Normandie. The Director of the School welcomed them, and the Partnerships and International Department provided them with all the information they needed about the school, courses, and student life to help them settle in. Afterwards, they had the opportunity to chat over snacks and drinks, get to know each other, and meet their student mentors through the Buddy Program.

Penser et Faire Bois (S06)

Completion of "La Halle aux glycines" by Edelwen Casula and Karen Mangin-Egal in Le Perrey

Last semester, the "Penser et Faire Bois" (S06) program entered into a partnership with the commune of Le Perrey and the Parc Régional de la Boucles de la Seine Normande to design a multifunctional open-air hall. Against a difficult backdrop of strike action and working hours, the various student teams accompanied by Benoît Flin and Asle Gonano succeeded in proposing different projects, which were presented to the town council in June. A winning team was chosen: Edelwen Casula and Karen Mangin-Egal for the "Wisteria Hall" project.

This project will therefore be carried out with an architect already chosen by the municipal council and in collaboration with our two young prizewinners. Bravo to them for their hard work.

These meetings will also be an opportunity to discuss the advantages of participatory housing for our regions and their residents, and to exchange views on public policies in support of participatory housing. We'll also be looking at how to remove the obstacles to the development of these initiatives and make them accessible to as many people as possible.

Conference - The relationship between architecture and urban planning from the Renaissance to the present day

Cycle architecture à lire -

00 – Jean Duminy Amphitheater –

During the Renaissance, architecture emerged as an autonomous discipline whose principles were laid down in treatises and then transferred to the organization of public spaces. In the mid-19th century, Haussmann in Paris and Cerdà in Barcelona defined the respective fields of urban planning and architecture. In the 1930s, Le Corbusier, by giving priority to housing, challenged this separation. But modern architecture was also criticized, and there were many attempts to hybridize the tradition of the regular city with the contributions of the Modern Movement.

Gilles Novarina is an urban planner and professor emeritus at Grenoble Alpes University. He was visiting professor at the Politecnico di Torino. Author of "Histoire de l'urbanisme : de la Renaissance à nos jours", published in April 2023 by Éditions Le Moniteur, he is currently a researcher at the Architecture Environnement & Cultures Constructives laboratory.

Discussant: Gabriella Trotta-Brambilla

Scientific directors of the "Architecture à lire" lecture series: Caroline Maniaque and Gabriella Trotta-Brambilla, architects, teachers, and researchers at ENSA Normandie and the ATE (Architecture, Territory, Environment) Research Laboratory / ENSA Normandie Normandie Université.

Conference - Hors les murs - Managing the water cycle

From 3 to 4:30 pm at the Maison pour Tous in Pavilly -

Rivers are the living heart of the region; from upstream to downstream, they criss-cross, irrigate and collect materials and sediments. From nourishing water to the fear of flooding, they have conditioned human settlement in the valleys, weaving a bond with its inhabitants that is both functional and intangible. To meet the needs of agriculture, industry and risk prevention, numerous hydraulic structures were built, and these weirs, dams, dykes and covers bear witness to our relationship with the resource, risk, technology and the geographical base. Long mastered and often forgotten, rivers are now, as part of the ecological transition, at the heart of local issues. As a result, river renaturation projects are flourishing, whether in rural or suburban areas, or in densely populated cities. These projects involve hydraulic engineers, ecologists, sociologists and, increasingly, urban and landscape architects. While these projects take care of watercourses, they also raise central questions about project practice and the positioning of architects and landscape architects.

Through a number of project examples, we'll take a closer look at the vocabulary associated with rivers, question the way they are represented, and finally discuss the role and contribution of architects and landscape architects in river renaturation projects.

Program for the day dedicated to water, biodiversity and life:

  • 10:00am - 12:00pm: Meet at the intersection of rue Aristide Briand and rue Rodolphe Vadet in Pavilly for a landscape walk with Arnaud ROSAN, river coordinator for the Syndicat mixte du bassin versant Austreberthe, and Laure Létoublon, landscape architect at Atelier MIRA.
  • 1:30-3pm, at the Maison pour Tous in Pavilly: Conference and discussion with Julien Gouvaze, Director of SMBVAS.

As part of the S9 EXPE project workshop and S7 AVT project workshop
Teaching team: Adrien Hénocq and Marina Ramirez

Conference - From home to home. Age-proof cities

5:30 pm - Jean Duminy Amphitheatre - France
as part of the " Territoire en transition. Habitat, vieillissement et espaces de vie " organized by the ATE laboratory, in partnership with the Fondation Fil Seine and the Union sociale pour l'habitat en Normandie.

Retirement marks a major turning point. Time management, finances and social integration are all impacted, with degrees of anticipation varying according to the individual, but invariably leading to the question: where and how to grow old? In France, the vast majority want to remain at home. Rooted in the survey work carried out as part of the "Le Printemps de L'Hiver" study (Maison de l'Architecture IDF, 2019-2021), this talk examines the trends underlying aging in France, between desires for autonomy and community living - whether chosen or subjugated.
How can our cities support these desires for autonomy, and turn the spatial practices of the elderly into an opportunity for invention for all?

Meriem Chabani is an architect and urban planner, founder of the New South agency. She is also an associate lecturer at ENSA Paris Malaquais. Her aim is to "put the margin at the center". She questions the social, political and economic dynamics that shape territories and shape architecture. Her work has been exhibited at the Istanbul Design Biennial (2018), CIVA (2022) and the Lagos Biennial (2023). She is a winner of FAIRE (2021), the Europe 40 under 40 prize awarded by the European Center for Architecture and the Chicago Athenaeum (2020), Europan (2017) and the Holcim Awards for Sustainable Development (2014). Topics: South/North relations, Inclusive cities, Architecture of the Sacred, Productive cities.
