Rurality and participation" off-site workshop, a dedicated website

From April 29 to May 6, 2023, first-year master's students fromENSA Normandie ENSA Paris-La-Villette, along with two young professional architects, were invited to stay in Saint-Benoît-sur-Loire to work with local residents on issues raised by the relationship between heritage and ecological transition. More specifically, the aim was to contribute to the study of project possibilities on the site of a future eco-neighborhood, to help reflect on how to welcome sustainable tourism extended to new populations, particularly families with children, and finally to contribute to many other topics, in particular built, natural, and intangible heritage, the characterization of the region's unique features, its potential, and its future. This residency was carried out in partnership with the municipality of Saint-Benoît-sur-Loire, ENSA Normandie Paris-La-Villette, the Didattica association, and the Petite Cité de Caractère association.

Conference - Bamboo in ecological design

30 – Jean Duminy Amphitheater –

Bamboo is an ecological material. It can store carbon, provide ecosystem services, contribute to soil and water management. Moreover, bamboo has become the cultural symbol of many regions and has long been associated with everyday life. After being long forgotten and considered the "poor man's wood", bamboo has recently made a comeback on the design scene. With its durability and versatility, bamboo is available to us to develop ecological design concepts.

Conference - Ecology and Disciplinary Decompartmentalization

6pm - Jean Duminy Amphitheatre -
as part of the conference "What architecture does to ecology" organized by the ATE laboratory

*EDIT* to follow the conference live: https://webtv.normandie-univ.fr/lives/colloque-ecologie-et-decloisonnement-disciplinaire/

Aristotle defines economy as the art of managing a household. Ernst Haeckel defines ecology as the interaction of living beings within an environment, seen as a shared household, a co-ownership. One definition of an architect could be one who, through in-depth study - formal or informal - has addressed the question of habitat and inhabitation; the interaction between living beings, and the physical reality of their shared envelope. Does such a "training" prepare one to be more lucid about ecological issues on the scale of a landscape, a country, a planet? This is the question that Lionel Devlieger's conference will address, bringing arguments in favor of, but also against, this postulate.

Lionel Devlieger is an engineer-architect and historian. He is co-founder of Rotor, a Brussels-based organization specialized in the study of current material culture.
Rotor promotes the debate on issues related to resources, waste and obsolescence in the building sector through research projects, exhibitions, conferences and publications. Rotor also coordinates large-scale dismantling operations, collaborates on architectural projects and carries out design projects.
Lionel Devlieger has taught at universities in Europe and the United States (UC Berkeley, TU Delft, Columbia University, AA School, among others). He is co-author of Deconstruction and Reuse, 2018, a textbook on the reuse of building elements. Since September 2021, he is an associate professor at the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning at Ghent University, where he teaches, among other things, the history of circular design and modern building ecologies.

ENSA Normandie receives new government funding for energy renovation

After receiving exceptional funding of €6.6 million from the recovery plan,ENSA Normandie once again won a call for projects: "Resilience 2," launched last October by the State Property Directorate. This call for projects is part of the energy efficiency plan. This plan aims in particular to drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions, starting with better management of state-owned buildings, the largest energy consumer in France.
More than 5,600 applications were submitted, 1,000 of which were selected, including that of the Normandy School of Architecture.

Three projects selected for a total of €867,000

- Insulation and replacement of the Palomar gallery windows, located on the 2nd floor of the building
- Replacement of the exterior woodwork in the Great Hall
- Installation of a building management system to supervise and control the heating and ventilation systems, ensuring that they operate in the most efficient and economical manner

This government energy conservation plan aims to reduce our energy consumption by 10% by 2024, thanks to a collective effort. It is a first step towards achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
