Hors-les-murs conference - Managing the water cycle
  • School life

From 3 to 4:30 pm at the Maison pour Tous in Pavilly -

Rivers are the living heart of the region; from upstream to downstream, they criss-cross, irrigate and collect materials and sediments. From nourishing water to the fear of flooding, they have conditioned human settlement in the valleys, weaving a bond with its inhabitants that is both functional and intangible. To meet the needs of agriculture, industry and risk prevention, numerous hydraulic structures were built, and these weirs, dams, dykes and covers bear witness to our relationship with the resource, risk, technology and the geographical base. Long mastered and often forgotten, rivers are now, as part of the ecological transition, at the heart of local issues. As a result, river renaturation projects are flourishing, whether in rural or suburban areas, or in densely populated cities. These projects involve hydraulic engineers, ecologists, sociologists and, increasingly, urban and landscape architects. While these projects take care of watercourses, they also raise central questions about project practice and the positioning of architects and landscape architects.

Through a number of project examples, we'll take a closer look at the vocabulary associated with rivers, question the way they are represented, and finally discuss the role and contribution of architects and landscape architects in river renaturation projects.

Program for the day dedicated to water, biodiversity and life:

  • 10:00am - 12:00pm: Meet at the intersection of rue Aristide Briand and rue Rodolphe Vadet in Pavilly for a landscape walk with Arnaud ROSAN, river coordinator for the Syndicat mixte du bassin versant Austreberthe, and Laure Létoublon, landscape architect at Atelier MIRA.
