As more and more teachers explore new teaching methods and leave the four walls of the school for a day to teach outdoors, Alexis Desplats, a doctoral student atENSA Normandie, together with Topophile magazine and La Fabrique des communs pédagogiques, has launched a competition for ideas on the theme of the recreational city, designed with children in mind to accommodate outdoor teaching methods.

The competition accompanied the Rencontres Internationales de la Classe Dehors, held in Marseille's Parc du XXVIe Centenaire from June 14 to 17, 2025. The idea was to reverse the perspective by imagining a welcoming outdoors, where children could have classes four days a week.
Some twenty teams from all over France, as well as Belgium, Italy and Malta, responded to the call from Alexis and her partners. Their proposals, both accomplished and sensitive, won over the jury with their highly complementary nature. After the awards ceremony, held at the Palais du Pharo on May 16, those present were able to discover the winners and all the participants through the Marseille Ville Récréative exhibition, currently on display at CROA PACA.

Bravo to Alexis Desplats for this inspiring initiative, which opens up new avenues for outdoor education and invites young and old alike to rethink the city in a new way!
