This course represents the culmination of the program and is intended to help students develop the independence they need to transition into the professional world. This independent project must allow students to apply the knowledge and working methods they have acquired throughout their studies, and to build upon the ideas already explored in the Master’s-level urban design course, addressing issues that are related to and/or intersect with those covered in the seminar.
It consists of developing an urban and regional project designed to assess the student’s learning outcomes, level of proficiency, and degree of autonomy in this discipline.
This course will prioritize the student’s ability to frame a problem within a complex situation in a context of transformation involving contemporary challenges, using a multiscale approach (territory/city/architecture), integrating contemporary environmental issues, and adopting a strategic, operational vision that articulates these scales with the long-term nature of a territory’s transformation.
The various stages of the process will be formalized in ad hoc documents, including texts, diagrams, models, and conceptual or technical drawings necessary for understanding the process. Students will need to address the various professional requirements of this type of study: producing summary documents that combine graphic and written expression; delivering an oral presentation and defending a project approach; and developing the visual materials necessary for sharing and understanding the project approach.
