S7-UE2 : 2ND CYCLE MASTER
Semester 7
Architecture Research and Experimentation
S07-EXP-2-1 : Research seminar
Objectives
Within the Experimentation field of study, this master's level research seminar aims to contribute to the knowledge of architecture and urbanism in the light of issues related to the fight against global warming, the depletion of resources, and the preservation of biodiversity. Students develop a critical reflection on what ecology does to architecture, but also on what architecture does to ecology. In search of reciprocal determinisms, they endeavor to deconstruct the practices and achievements that can be associated today as well as in the past with ecoconstruction. In other words, they analyze and interpret the political, social, economic, technical and cultural logics that contribute to the formation of architectural, urban and landscape spaces.
Supervised by a multidisciplinary team of professors, students conduct research that can mobilize the tools of the humanities and social sciences, the engineering sciences and, of course, architecture. They engage in empirical and experiential knowledge, and for this purpose practice fieldwork and surveys of actors - elected officials, experts, industrialists, residents, etc., physical and technical experimentation, and historical research. The objects and subjects they deal with are varied, but all have a strong heuristic potential with regard to the logics of production and reception of architecture and urban spaces that they may encounter in the context of the project workshops offered within the field of study.
