François Brouat, 9 years as Chairman
The entire college would like to pay tribute to the determined action of François Brouat, who chaired the college between 2015 and 2024. His term of office was marked by the implementation of the reform of the ENSA(P) statutes in 2018, which consolidated the ENSA(P)'s position in higher education with co-supervision by the Ministries of Culture and Higher Education and Research. This development has been accompanied by the creation of teaching relief positions to enable teacher-researchers to carry out their research mission.
Raphaël Labrunye, new Chairman
The new presidency's priority is the evolution of the ENSA(P) model, following on from the two IGAC/IGESR reports (2021 and 2022), that of MP Holroyd (2023) and that of the HCERES (2023), while awaiting that of the Cour des Comptes for 2025.
" Together with our supervisory ministries, we have all the data we need to move our ENSA(P) towards a more integrated model of higher education and research, while at the same time promoting our own expertise in the field of architectural, urban and landscape design. The ability of architects and landscape architects to design and implement projects in complex situations is essential if we are to meet the environmental and societal challenges that lie ahead.
Transitions and innovations for tomorrow's architects and landscapers
The next projects to be undertaken by this college of directors will focus in particular on overhauling the organization of architectural studies, currently governed by decrees dating back to 2005. In particular, the aim is to diversify incoming and outgoing student career paths, in conjunction with our university partners, to strengthen links with the professional world, and to enhance research activities in architecture in order to combine the act of designing with scientific expertise. New digital tools such as artificial intelligence, and the new challenges of preserving the living world, are re-examining the skills and know-how of the industry.
" The submission of the "Transition archi" project to the "Compétences et Métiers d'avenir" call for expressions of interest, which we hope to win, is part of this perspective. It brings together the 20 ENSA(P), INSA Strasbourg, the only engineering school to offer a degree in architecture, INSA Blois, which offers a diploma in landscape design, as do ENSAP Bordeaux and ENSAP Lille, the École de Chaillot, which trains heritage architects and state urban planners, Amàco, an association specializing in eco-construction training, as well as the Conseil National de l'Ordre des Architectes and the Réseau des organismes de formations des architectes. The project sets out two priority themes - digital and ecological transitions - and proposes 4 areas of focus: teacher training, the introduction of sandwich courses, continuing education for professionals and the development of doctoral programs.
By bringing together all the players in the sector, the project aims to implement a global evolution in training on a national scale.
Raphaël Labrunye's career
A DPLG architect and graduate of ENSA Normandie and ENSA Versailles, Raphaël Labrunye holds a doctorate in architectural history from the Université de Versailles-Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines. He was appointed lecturer at ENSA Bretagne in 2014, then at ENSA Normandie in 2018. He became Director of ENSA Normandie in February 2019, and was reappointed for a second term in 2022. In this capacity, he is a director of the COMUE Normandie Université, of which ENSA Normandie is a member. Under his leadership, ENSA Normandie is a member of the winning consortia of the PIA3 "Ressources" (hybrid teaching) with Amàco, 6 ENSA(P) and INSA de Lyon, and of the PIA4 Excellences "Polycampus" with Université du Havre Normandie and Esadhar, "Transition" with Université de Rouen Normandie and INSA de Rouen Normandie.
National schools of architecture
20 National Higher Schools of Architecture (ENSA), public administrative establishments under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture, award the State Diploma in Architecture. Two of them, in Bordeaux and Lille, also offer training leading to the State Landscape Design Diploma.
Architectural training is multidisciplinary. It combines teaching specific to the architectural discipline (architectural and urban design, history and theory of architecture and the city, representation of space), enriched and articulated with knowledge from other disciplines (arts, sociology, history, science and technology, urban planning, landscape, IT, modern languages).
