Objectives
This lecture course is designed in relation to the two multidisciplinary urban project workshops of semester 7 of the "Architecture of the city and the territory" field of study. It offers an introduction to the various questions that arise in contemporary urban planning, and in particular it explores in greater depth the question of the transformation of territories in relation to water, while reinforcing the culture of the architectural, urban and territorial project.
The notions, spatialized concepts, methods, and tools necessary for the construction of a solid argument explaining and justifying the design process implemented by the student are addressed.
The focus of the course is the resilient city as a figure capable of responding to the urgency of adapting contemporary urbanization to the multiple territorial issues related to climate change.
The aim is to make students aware of this new condition of the urban/architectural fabric and to provide them with tools :
- for a holistic understanding of the impacts of climate phenomena on contemporary societies and in particular on the ways in which these are configured in space;
- for the design of spatial solutions for adaptation and mitigation, aiming both to take into account vulnerabilities and to enhance the assets of urbanized territories.
Content
Main topics covered:
- climate change and urban projects ;
- coastal and river territories (environments specifically addressed in the two workshops) ;
- city-nature relations;
- heritage and urban project/public space project.

The aim is to illustrate both the theories and practices, as well as the scales and temporalities of the urban project and in particular of the public space project as a structure of the city.
Evaluation method
