S01-AR-3-2 : Structure 1: discovery and experimentation
Responsible for : François Fleury
Objectives
Teaching contributes to the acquisition of the following skills:
- Integrate construction issues into architectural design.
- Consciously situate one's actions in material reality, in keeping with an ecological and civic attitude.
- Combine form and structure, taking into account the project's physical environment.
- Make judicious use of architectural references.
- Distinguish between different forms of scientificity in the discourses and processes associated with architectural production.
- Argue the viability of a project and improve it through contact with specialists.
Towards the acquisition of the general skills targeted by the lectures, the tutorials aim more specifically to :
- Promote understanding of phenomena
- Acquire know-how
- Stimulate interest and motivation
- Synthesize
- Memorize (recall knowledge)

Content
The lecture delivers the following knowledge:
- Technical issues in architecture
- Structural definitions, functions and typologies
- Concepts of force, equilibrium, hyperstaticity, stress, strain, dimensioning principles
- Associated physico-mathematical models
- Relationships between morphological parameters and strength and deformation
Exercises and manipulations focus on the discovery and mastery of structural mechanics phenomena and associated physico-mathematical models.
